Ministry eyes new prisons


Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri yesterday revealed a plan to seek approval of the Cabinet for a BT30 -billion budget to build 42 new prisons nationwide. In an effort to curb the overcrowding , the Ministry is also a provision to suspend the remaining sets of the older inmates and those inmates who have served at least two-thirds spend their conditions .
Measures would also be implemented to help reduce the number of people sentenced to prison , he added.
